My Surprising Quirk

So it’s time for me to reveal something about myself that people reading may not know, or even understand in this case. It’s something that I’m not sure any else besides myself really does. In fact, you might find it ridiculous and a little awkward to think of for yourself. I play WoW with the sound off at ALL times.

That’s right, that ‘epic music’ that you hear on the login screen, yeah I have no idea what it sounds like. When I logged into my trial account for the first time, I had the sound off. I was sitting in my friends barracks room at the base we went to A school at and we weren’t supposed to be in there. So I was logging in when I wasn’t supposed to be, so I turned the sound off to make sure I didn’t get caught because of it.

After that, I kind of just always played it with the sound off. At first it was because I was playing and watching TV in my own barracks room and the two sounds clashing would have most definitely given me a headache. Then after I got married it was to avoid driving my wife insane with the sounds. She doesn’t like me spending so much time on it as it is (half the time), so having the sound on would just upset her even more I’m sure. And after two or three years of playing with absolutely no sound, I never even think about it. I just so happened to think about it today and thought I would share.

I’m sure there are people out there that take queues on what’s happening in a dungeon/raid from the sounds. I’m sure that those said people would also tell me I am playing wrong since I have never heard the words “Bone Storm” yelled in ICC. There are so many sounds that I have never heard. I often wonder if when I kill a critter if it let’s out a little squeak as it dies. And if I heard it do it if I would think twice about killing them because I can hear their pain. There are little things like that that I think about all the time.

So now that I’ve revealed a quirk about myself. I’d love to hear if any of you reading this have any interesting quirks that no one would guess about you. So how bout it? What do you have for me?

  1. You are not alone in this one!

I never play with the sound on either (unless I know there is a quest turn-in that will involve a cinematic or song clip). I can still remember the exact moment I shut my sound off – I was a newbie questing in Duskwood on my very first character and I asked BBB if there was a way for me to stop the game from saying “job done” every time I turned in a quest because the voice was driving me nuts. He showed me how to disable sound and that was it for me :-)

My weird quirk would probably be that in game, none of my characters will kill a critter (forest animals, bunnies, etc) unless it’s by accident (like consecrating on my pally and then she feels really bad). And if I have a quest to kill some type of particular animal, I always avoid the baby/yellow mobs (like baby mammoth calves, etc). It just feels too mean to attack them. :-)

    • Well, that’s very kind hearted of you Cassie, even in an e-world. You must be a very caring person offline. Now I wonder what BBB would say to that. :D

Glad to know also that I’m not the only one that plays with the sound off.

  2. Dang, everyone’s getting like their own website/blog! I’m still on blogger!

  3. I usually play with the sound off too as it just irritates me – the noises from my toons, that is, not the beautiful music ( which I listen to on my ipod ) but my quirk would have to be that I play in 1st person view, even when raiding!
